Why hasn’t the U.S.-China trade war ended?

While there have been some signs of progress in resolving the trade war, the trade war will continue to be a source of tension between the U.S. and China for some time to come.

The trade war between the United States and China has not ended even after a Covid-19 pandemic and Donald Trump’s losing of Presidency in the 2020 presidential election. Issues that led to the trade war are complex and difficult to resolve, and there are fundamental disagreements between the two countries on key issues.

The trade war began in 2018, when the Trump administration imposed tariffs on Chinese goods in an effort to address what it saw as unfair trade practices by China, such as intellectual property theft and forced technology transfer. In response, China imposed retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods. While there have been some attempts to negotiate a resolution to the trade war, progress has been slow, and the two sides remain far apart on key issues.
